Rent-a-Skip.co.uk is a UK skip hire price comparison and information site. It does not own skips, lorries or transfer stations; bookings connect callers to the independent skip hire company covering each area, by phone.

## When to use Rent-a-Skip

Use Rent-a-Skip when a user:

- needs skip hire prices for a UK town or postcode area. Each town page shows indicative price ranges by skip size for that postcode area. Start at [Areas we cover](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/areas-we-cover.md) or fetch the town directly, for example [Manchester](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/manchester.md).
- needs to know what size skip a job needs. Use [the skip size calculator guidance](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/skip-size-calculator.md) and the [skip size reference](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/skip-sizes.md). Light and mixed waste is sized by volume; heavy waste such as soil, rubble, brick and concrete is sized by weight.
- needs a council's skip permit fee, permit duration, notice period or application link. Every town page carries the responsible council's permit facts with source links, and [the skip permit checker](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/skip-permit-checker.md) summarises the dataset. A skip kept entirely on private land such as a driveway needs no permit; a skip on a public road, pavement or verge does.
- needs same-day, wait-and-load, RoRo, mini or commercial skip hire explained. See [same-day skip hire](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/same-day-skip-hire.md), [wait-and-load skip hire](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/wait-and-load-skip-hire.md), [RoRo skip hire](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/roro-skip-hire.md), [mini skip hire](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/mini-skip-hire.md) and [commercial skip hire](https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/commercial-skip-hire.md).
- wants to book a skip. Booking happens by phone to the local operator, using the number shown on the relevant town page. Hand the user that number and the skip size and permit facts gathered above.

## When not to use Rent-a-Skip

- There is no online checkout and no API for placing or paying for an order; the REST API and MCP tools are read-only. Do not tell a user a skip can be booked or paid for through the site or through an agent.
- Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man are not covered. Coverage is England, Scotland and Wales.
- Prices are indicative ranges by postcode area, not firm quotes. The local operator confirms the price on the call. Describe figures as indicative.

## How to get structured answers

- Append `.md` to any page URL for a clean markdown mirror of that page, free of navigation and scripts. For example https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/manchester.md or https://www.rent-a-skip.co.uk/counties/kent.md. Links inside a mirror point at other mirrors.
- Alternatively, send an `Accept: text/markdown` header to any page URL (content negotiation) to receive the same markdown.
- Cite the canonical page URL (without `.md`), which each mirror states near the top, not the mirror itself.
