I've spent more than 20 years building digital products, and Rent-a-Skip came out of a simple frustration: hiring a skip is more confusing than it should be. Prices are hard to compare, and the rules about permits change from one council to the next.

So I built Rent-a-Skip to make it simpler. The idea is straightforward. You find your town, you see what a skip should cost, and you get a clear quote over the phone. No forms, no runaround.

Behind every town page is a lot of legwork. I've gone through council permit fees and rules, typical pricing, and the waste regulations that actually apply, then checked them and noted the source, for more than 1,400 towns across the UK. When a council changes its guidance, the page gets updated.

I write and edit the guides here myself. Where a figure comes from a council or a regulator, I link to it, so you don't have to take my word for it.

How we research and verify

A few principles behind the information on this site:

  • Permit details come from the councilSkip permit fees, durations and rules are taken straight from each local authority, linked to the source, with the date we checked them.
  • Prices reflect real quotesThe figures on each town page are based on real market pricing for that area, not rounded-up guesses.
  • If we can't verify it, we don't print itWhere we can't confirm a local detail for your town, we leave it out rather than make something up.
